Singer Jade Thirwall wanted to know if the campers were afforded secret luxuries, when the ex Towie star insisted it was as bad as it looks.

The 34 year old said he scarpered numerous times after feeling agonising hunger pangs as a result of the camp’s meagre diet of rice and beans.

Speaking about the gruelling series, which is taking place in Wales this year due to the pandemic, Mark said: “I somehow got to the final.

“The jungle is horrendous in terms of hunger and boredom.

“The night I got out I said to the boss in Australia, ‘why don’t you show how hungry we really are?’ And he said ‘well it gets boring seeing you lot just moaning about it all day.’

“Hunger, to the point I tried to escape five times and they had to hold me back …

“It was the longes,t most horrible month of my life.”

The ex Towie star entered the show when it was filmed in the jungle in 2011 and almost won the series, but was pipped to the post by McFly bassist Dougie Poynter.

Lttle Mix singer Perrie Edwards admitted “you’d never get me in there” and Leigh-Anne Pinnock said: “I think if you want good TV, then I should probably do it.”

Mark also reached the final of Strictly Come Dancing in 2014, and said: “Strictly is the most nerve wracking thing you’ll ever do on a Saturday night.”

And Jade Thirwall replied: “Yeah, I mean, I was going to say Strictly is less challenging but actually, when you see those celebs doing it, they all get all sorts of injuries, they’re dancing like every single day, there’s all that pressure, I always think when I watch them, they are live on TV and if they slip up… or trip, I’m like that pressure alone would be a lot for me.

“I mean I say that as if I’ve never performed on live TV before but I don’t know, I always think they are amazing, it’s hard work.

“But the other thing with that is, if you can already dance as well, I like when people go on that you didn’t know could dance then they really thrive on the show.”
