Only Fools & Horses star Nicholas Lyndhurst ‘to be in new series of Frasier’ in first role since death of son aged 19

ONLY Fools and Horses’ Nicholas Lyndhurst will star in the new series of Frasier for the first role since his son’s death.

The award-winning actor, 61, is set to play the mischievous and boozy university professor Alan Cornwall in the sitcom’s sequel.

And he will be reuniting with Dr. Frasier Crane actor Kelsey Grammer, 67, for the show after they performed together who he once acted with in a play, for the show.

It is Lyndhurst’s first role since son Archie died aged 19 in September 2020 of a brain haemorrhage.

The CBBC actor was discovered at his family home in Fulham, West London.

He had briefly starred alongside his dad in sitcom So Awkward.

Lyndhurst said of himself and Archie’s mum after his death: “Lucy and I are utterly grief stricken.”

And actor Sir David Jason was comforting him in the weeks after the tragic incident.

Last January he was forced to deny that he had retired from acting altogether.

The logline for the Frasier sequel series states: “Frasier is off to a different city with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge, and an old dream or two to finally fulfill.

“Frasier has re-entered the building!

Larger than life Alan is said to have an intellect to match Frasier’s but rarely uses it, Variety reports.

Frasier is expected to help him find “some of the direction he’s been missing in his own life” through thoughtful guidance.

Lyndhurst is best known for his roles in British sitcoms including Only Fools and Horses, and Goodnight Sweetheart.

Both earned him award nominations and wins. He is the first actor revealed to be joining the reboot of Frasier.

It will be returning to screen on Paramount Plus afters its 11 seasons aired between 1994 and 2004.

Filming is thought to have started filming last year but is in unclear when it will air.
