Harry has spoken out about Thomas Markle, saying Meghan “doesn’t have a father” after a row. In the documentary Harry shares his regret at Meghan and Thomas’ relationship falling apart after they had gotten married. Thomas had leaked a letter from his daughter to the Mail on Sunday in 2018, and previously said he did so because he felt he was being “vilified” by articles about him.
Speaking after Meghan discusses her relationship with her father, Harry says “it’s incredibly sad” that his wife and Thomas are not speaking.
He added: “She had a father before this. And now she doesn’t have a father.
“And I shouldered that, because if Meg wasn’t with me, then her dad would still be her dad.”
The documentary also shows off Meghan’s rift from her father via excerpts from public legal documents, with a text exchange highlighting the Duchess’ distrust of Thomas.
Meghan texted her father on May 17, 2018: “Please can I ask that you stop talking to any press…
“You haven’t returned any of our 20+ calls since we all spoke on Saturday morning; which only adds to the hurt you’ve been causing.
“We aren’t angry but we really do need to speak to u. Love M and H.”
Thomas replied: “I’ve done nothing to hurt you Meghan or anyone else.
“I know nothing about phone calls I’m sorry my heart attack is there any inconvenience for you.”
He then says “if only I had died then you guys then you guys could pretend to be sad”.
Harry then responds: “Tom, it’s Harry, please answer your phone.
“I need to know this is actually you because it doesn’t sound like u at all.”
