Writer who accused Donald Trump of rape files new lawsuit against ex-President

A writer who accused former President Donald Trump of rape has filed an upgraded lawsuit against him in New York. E Jean Carroll, a former magazine columnist, launched a civil suit against the former for battery and defamation on Thanksgiving just minutes after a new state law took effect allowing victims of sexual violence to sue over attacks that occurred decades ago. She filed the suit on Thursday, November 24, as the new law – named the Adult Survivors Act – provided former victims with a one-year filing window.

Ms Carroll has previously accused the former President of allegedly raping her in a department store’s dressing room.

The lawsuit alleges: “Trump’s underlying sexual assault severely injured Carroll, causing significant pain and suffering, lasting psychological harms, loss of dignity, and invasion of her privacy.

“His recent defamatory statement has only added to the harm that Carroll had already suffered.”

Ms Carroll’s suit is the second she has brought against the former President, and the first seeking accountability for the alleged New York department store rape in the mid-1990s.
